If Siggraph's opinion can be trusted (and we think it can), then there's a school in Florida, U.S.A. that's not just for clowns anymore...

Ringling School of Art and Design.

I was just a bald faced boy and out of high school when my Mom took me to a place in Florida near my Grandmother's house. We were going to look at a school with a decidedly funny name: The Ringling School of Art and Design.

The Ringling Brothers are more famous for creating a circus. But don't think that this is some clown school! In recent times, Ringling has produced some students who's skills go far beyond the par.

Siggraph has a little page of video reviews. Out of 20 listings, four of them hail from Ringling students. No other school or institution appears even twice on this page. What's this tell you?

It says that there is consistency coming from that school. The four movies, in no particular order, are:

Poor Bogo.

I had the pleasure of seeing Poor Bogo right after its completion. That one movie alone demonstrates what 'thinking outside the box' means. An important part of Computer Animation is to recognize where some of the new greatest works are coming from.

Remember the name Ringling School of Art and Design. Especially if you're eligible for art-based scholarships. By the way - after seeing enough guys with purple hair, pig tails and nose rings, my Mother quickly decided that academics were lacking at this school. She steered me elsewhere. I may regret that for years!
