NASA uses a realistic animation to sell congress, and the rest of us, on the idea of going to Mars! Screenshots & Link...
Money doesn't come without proof that it's going somewhere useful and exciting. Dan Maas created numerous 3D animations. How did he do it?
The Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) in California gave Dan all the info he would need. From the FX of launching a rocket, to the stages the rover will go through, to a hair raising landing to the duties of the rover: Dan got it all in just under ten minutes.
Pics:

NASA waited six long minutes for the rover's airbags to bounce to a stop after a 12,000 MPH entry into the atmosphere! We see all of this in just the first four and-a-half minutes of the animation.
The animation, and its worldwide viewing and success illustrates one of the perfect purposes of 3D animation. Hat's off to Mr. Maas.

Dial-up download is up to an hour long; but take a nap, it's worth it to see such work! The animation is also available in pieces if you prefer.
