Merge

8 messages Feed-icon

    Hi all,

    1 question for you guys.
How do you merge 2 objects to each other?

Like you have one box here and one box there and you want that those 2 boxes are one box.

    Thanks
2 ways (more, but 2 easy ones)

    1. Select one of the boxes, and right click -> convert to -> editable poly. then right click again, click attach, then click the other box.

    2. if you need the faces to act as if they are all one mesh, instead of separately, do step one, then go to vertice mode (right click -> vertex) and line up the vertices with their neighbor, then select the points together and click weld on the right. If you dont understand what I mean, let me know, Ill post a screenshot of what i mean...
Or use Geometry>Compound Object>Boolean and union the two boxes.
    Thanks all,

I want to make a wall that is broken in the middle...But when i do one brick with boolean into the wall it all goes right, but when i want 2 do the second brick into the wall an boolean it, the first brick disapeares :S
That's why i want to merge those two brickes..(but instead of two bricks i have 5 or 6)

    Greetz,

I don't know why it does that but between each boolean operation click on your arrow icon or any other command to take switch off boolean and then go back. This ensures each boolean operation is seperate and should work. There is probably a better answer than this but it's what i do.

There is a free plugin called Proboolean which doesn't behave this way, might be worth searching for it.
Thanks that Probolean works :D, now i can go and test all kinds of lightning :D thanks
    Thanks all,

Actualy, Probolean is not the answer,
I know why its doing like this, you have to do the bolean at every object, for example:
you have a wall and want to draw to windows, first click on wall and bolean the first window, after that, unselect the wall, then select the wall again and do the bolean for the second window. i had the same problem and after a while i found the solution!
    Hope it helps.
Yeah, that's what I learned. Though repeated Boolean steps is not a wise choice unless you know how to clean up the mesh. If you plan on doing alot of Boolean operations, I would recommend optimizing your mesh for it prior to doing them. There are of course other ways around it like Probolean or Power Solids but this is the free and easier version. :)
