Super spray tutorial problem

2 messages Feed-icon

    I'm reading "3D Max bible" by Kelly L. Murdock and I'm stuck at this particle tutorial about creating a jet plane exhaust flames. I'm doing everything right but the result is not what's expected. I even opened his scene and rendered it with one of the two super spray emitter set up by me. The original looks normal but mine not. I compared them side by side and nothing. The only thing I can think of as the reason for the problem is the difference between Max versions. I'm using version 8, the tutorial is for 7. However there are no any changes in the interface of the super spray emitter.

    These are the settings for the super spray as written in the book:

    Create->Particles>Super Spray

    off axis spread value = 20
    off plane spread value = 90

    emit stop = 100
    life = 30
    particle size = 5.0
    standard particles -> sphere type

    for the material editor:
    diffuse color button -> particle age map
    age 0 = dark red
    age 50= dark yellow
    age 100 = black

    Go to parent -> opacity map button -> Particle MBlur map -> color#1 white -> color#2 black ->sharpness 0.1

    assign to emitter

    it should look like this: http://a181.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/81/l_3cfbeb27ab9eac3e8bdd2838bdae3eec.jpg[url]

    any ideas why is this happening?
    would you mind to post your output image
