well i never used UVW mapping a day in my life so i can't really help, but i could recommend you be more specific :) there is a lot to know about it and unless you specify the areas you need help with people won't know where to start helping.
Umm...Okay, I will try to be as specific as possible... Umm... Well, I need help with UVW Unwraping... I understand the basic concept of UVW Mapping and Unwrapping, but I do need help with it, and some/most tutorials I've read I do not really understand completely. I hope this clears up everything, although I am not really sure if it does.
    be more specific! hahaha

difficult to do that when you don't know what to ask isn't it.

my suggestion would be to go to a model resource website, like turbosquid for instance and download some free models with textures, then you can load the model in max and apply a UVW unwrap to the model and investigate how the 'UV's' have been laid out.
You can then play with the UV's and edit them a bit to see how they react on the model.
I recommend getting a copy of 3ds Max bible and having a read, it might sound like hard work that way, but struggling and failing is less pleasant :)

Here is a UVW Unwraping tutorial. The object to unwrap is not that complex but you will get the general idea.
