| 3D Kingdom: Tell us something about your self and your crew ? DSR: The Digital Selene Render team is formed by three people, a girl (Beatriz Castillo) and two boys (Jose Manuel Perez and Miguel Rivero). Our interest by this work began with science fiction films like Star Wars and all type of documentary about the digital image. 3D Kingdom: When and how did you start your company ? DSR: I began to work in the studio a year ago and means, but Digital Selene Render has been in operation practically one decade. | ![]() |
![]() | 3D Kingdom: Do you all meet somewhere, or you're working seperate? DSR: Of both forms, depending on the project and according to the project and the occupied thing that are the computers of the studio. At times, each member of the team investigates like solving a problem in the computer of its home, but commonest it is to work in equipment. 3D Kingdom: Is this your primary job ? DSR: Yes, it is my main labor activity, and I hope that it continue being thus :) | ![]() |
METHODS 3D Kingdom: What software do you use for animating, rendering and composing ? DSR: We used different types from programs. Mainly, we developed the workswith Discreet 3ds max, Discreet Combustion, Discreet Character Studio, Eyeon DFX, Afterburn, DPS-LEITCH Velocity, Micrografx Picture Publisher, Painter... 3D Kingdom: How many computers do you have and what's their configuration ? DSR: We have 5 computers based on Intel with ual graphical cards to allow the use of double monitor; this way, it is easier to work with the edition programs. Also we have a system DPS-LEITCH Velocity based on the hardware DPS-LEITCH Reality for edition and postproduction. In addition, we helped ourselves of the possibilities of framebuffer that Eyeon DFX, Discreet 3dsmax and Discreet Combustion allow on the tools of DPS-LEITCH. 3D Kingdom: Are you using "Network render" to speed up render time ? Yes, we have 2 computers connected in network, but we used them to share files and clips of video. Usually, we did not use them to accelerate the process of render. |
3D Kingdom: Your animations are fantastic. How much time do you need to make one ? DSR: Mainly, the time of creation of each animation depends on the complexity that offers each project. For example, the animations of Canal 8-Servicios Informativos or the one of the Canarias Investiga, take more than one week of elaboration due to the great number of layers that there are to plan, to create and to render. To all that it is necessary to add the time of composition to decide the opacity levels, the smoothness of the shades... What more time usually takes to us is the character animation, due to the great number of adjustments necessary to obtain satisfactory movements, and to solve cromakeys conflicting when the video source 3D Kingdom: How do you find clients ? Do you meet them personally or over the net ? DSR: The most veteran components of the studio worked in different TV stations many years ago. When they left them to create the studio, its work was already known, reason why we can say that those are the clients that find us ;) As far as the form to contact, it depends on the situation. When the distance allows it, we preferred to interchange opinions with the client in person, but if this encounter is not possible, we used other 3D Kingdom: Are you making animations for local or world-wide TV stations ? DSR: In the last years, we have worked for TV stations local, national (Spain) and for some american cinematographic producer (Dardo Productions, Los Angeles) |
|
| 3D Kingdom: Did you consider of making your own animated movie ? DSR: Yes, but not yet . At the moment, our objective is to reach an engineering control and creative that allows us to solve any problem that arises during the production of some animated movie. We have several ideas in mind and our objective is to make them when we can to synchronize our daily work with that type of projects. |
| 3D Kingdom: What are your plans for the future ? DSR: We want to extend the software licenses, to acquire new tools and to be able to develop to some projects of investigation and development on certain effects that we want to create. Oh, and, mainly, to appear frequently in 3D Kingdom ;) | ![]() |
![]() | 3D Kingdom: At the end, would you like to add something ? DSR: Perhaps, we would like to verify that, in the future, the animations for TV, broadcast... acquire the recognition that at the present time they do not have. We have observed that, in general, any character animation, by precarious which it is, receives greater attention on the part of the 3D community that animations more detailed and balanced, that belong to a specialty that this group considers minor. The 3D animation and the digital image includes many aspects, and the creation of animations for TV requires of certain techniques that, in our opinion, also are very interesting. |
| 3D Kingdom: What do you think about 3D Kingdom.org ;) ? DSR: By the problems with the server, we guessed that 3D Kingdom.org has enough acceptance :) and that one is a fact that fills to us of joy. It's very interesting to find a site that combine animations, tutorials, interviews... and everything with a clear and balance format that allows to find quickly what you look for. From Spain, we wish | ![]() |
| 3D Kingdom: Thank you for your time and best whishes in future ! DSR: Thanks to you, and we hope that 3D Kingdom grows with the same intensity that the 3d world and the digital image :) | |
