Posted in: General Discussion » Unofficial Speed Challenge-ish...

well, now that Monday is two days behind, here is your answer, ladies and gentlemen, to the question why 3DK doesn't have speed challenges at the moment, and why your begging won't change it.

Posted in: General Discussion » Unofficial Speed Challenge-ish...

Sounds nice. I might try to participate in this simple speed challenge if I have the time (I am going to format my 'emo' PC, so hopefully things are going smoothly). If I have the time, I think I will make an 'unofficial speed challenge award' as the appreciation for those who have taken part and done their job well. Anyways, good luck in the competition :)

Thanks :)

Well, everyone was asking for a speed challenge, i just thought I'd make one for you, since i dunno how they work or what is supposed to be done, I'll just go with something simple.

Theme: Back to the beginnings.
Pick a Basic Mesh, i.e. Sphere, Cube, Pyramid, Torus, Cylinder, etc... and do something to it Basically show off your modeling and texturing skills while maintaining the basic nature of the object you are working on.

For example, a Sphere could be a Sun, a Borg Sphere, a Marble, a ball, or you could go with abstract and make a bunch of strings and stripes that form a sphere, the form is up to you, as long as the shape is preserved.

Deadline:
Lets say Monday, noon-ish.

Time Limit:
10 Hours, 5 for modeling, 5 for texturing and rendering.

Post work is allowed. as long as the time is counted.

Note: Remember this is Just for fun, there's no rewards or anything, so if you wanna go past the time limit or do it in ten seconds, its not important, only advice i can give is learn something new while doing this project as that could be quite a reward in itself, i personally love learning and using new techniques.

what about $$$? Kidding!:P
i`m in but...don`t expect me to be fast cuz` I got school on my head and now my parents limit my PC time cuz` I have some small notes :censored:

I need some simple models for a 3D game I'm working on. The best formats would be .3ds and .md3... and nothing needs to be too fancy. Some of them do need to be animated, though.

Then you should learn to use 3DS Max. I'm sure you will know the basics within 1 week (just 1-2 hours per day is enough). I've already able to build my first roman senate after 1 month of 'learning'. You should make the 'map' by yourself, not rely on other people since that is not your 'work' anymore. Here are some sites that has lots of tutorials for 3DS Max as well as some other major CG related softwares :

Thanks.
