Basic animating in 3ds max is very, very easy and fun. If you don't know how
to animate you might want to read this tutorial, you won't regret it. It's also good for web pages if you have the Swift 3D plugin.
First off, reset the scene and create a object you want to animate. For this tutorial I'll use a sphere, and I'll make it a wire model so you can see the animation.

Now select the object you want to animate and click on animate.

The animate button will become red as well as the timeline, and the active port.

Now scroll to the frame you want.

After you do that, move the object or rotate it, or do whatever you want to it.
All you have to do now is to render and there you have it, your first
animation.
This is what I got in just a few minutes.

Have fun!
