Cloth Simulation: Controlling it with Weight Maps
Posted by mayaTitan at 2008-03-29 07:33:07 with 4585 reads.
While I was working on an animation project, I was struggling a little bit on how to get a localized effect on getting cloth simulation to work on a character. So, I took a small hiatus on my own character and opened and old scene to test my theory on a way to control my cloth. A lot of artists like me having tried many different ways to get cloth simulation working and have struggled constantly.

Making of The Fall Scarecrow
Posted by mayaTitan at 2008-03-11 06:19:14 with 1703 reads.
by Christopher Tackett At the start of this project I wasn’t sure if I wanted to render it in Lightwave or Zbrush. I probably could have created a slightly better rendering with Lightwave since it would have more accurate shadows. But during some early Zbrush test renderings of the scene I felt I was getting great results from the Zbrush rendering engine.

"This time I wanted to concentrate on proper texturing and realism. It took me 5 months of my free time to create this scene. My main goal was to recreate the already existing environment in 3d as accurately as possible to achieve a high degree of realism, just like in the movie production. I knew from the beginning that for this work, in order to achieve the intended realism, I would have to put emphasis on textures."

"Before I start I should say that this is based on what I know and learnt from people at uni, and at work, and the internet. Other people you may learn from prefer more or less passes etc. for more control or to save on excess files - so just keep in mind there are usually different ways to do things all with their own advantages and disadvantages (and don't blame me)."
